Be a Living Sacrifice

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true and proper worship." Romans 12:1

As a military veteran, I am often thanked for my sacrifice and receive praise telling of how proud they are of me for serving our country and for fighting for our freedom.

And to be honest, they are right; I did have to sacrifice a lot. I gave up my independence, my time with family, as well as my safety that was put at risk to protect the security of others. It was not always easy and I still bear the emotional scars and challenges of that choice.

Do I regret it? No I don’t and I am proud to have served and I am also so very proud and thankful for all the other men and women that served with me, whether past and present. We all made sacrifices for a nation we thought was worth serving.

But my question is this…

What cause worth serving is better than God? Why do we put so much honor into serving our country but so often overlook the importance of serving our Lord and Savior? He continually provides for us and shows us His love and mercy all the while promising us eternal glory when all we deserve is death.

I am proud to have been a soldier/sailor for America but I am even prouder to be a soldier of Christ. We all need to remember why it is we are here and surrender our lives to one who has saved us and continues to every moment we live.

So as we begin this new year, I pray that we enlist or re-enlist into the army of Christ. That instead of raising our right hand, that we get on bended knee and raise our hearts in praise, worship and surrender.

I, Janet Stiles, do humbly submit myself to you oh Lord. I will protect my body and offer it up as a living sacrifice to you against all the sinful things around me and in me. I will bear true faith and allegiance to you and obey your orders, according to your Living Word. So lease help me stay true to this and to honor you in all I do and all that I am. Amen
