What’s in it for me?

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 2 Timothy 4:3

I am in two different bible studies, one on Ephesians and one on Exodus.  Last night’s bible study is over Exodus and we studied the famous 10 commandments. The focus looked at the intent of the 10 commandments in Moses time and now, and what was the difference. Then the final part of the study focused on how Jesus summed up all the laws. Remember when Jesus said in Galatians 5:14, For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

This goes against the total thought of this time. Today it is all about loving yourself and “What’s in it for me?” When your total thought is “What’s in it for me?” then you are not following the verse about loving your neighbor.

We surround ourselves with people who support our way of lives (even when it is full of sin), we listen to others as long as they don’t rebuke our wicked ways of life. And then looking at the bible verse this post it focusing on, we pick churches because we want to hear a certain message, messages that do not support sound doctrine, we want to hear messages that help our own desire and not God’s desire. Feel good messages are ok, but sometimes the truth is not a feel good message and we should embrace those too. So remember pray and listen to feedback for improvement. Also verify what you are hearing from family, friends and pastors with scripture. Your salvation should not be based on knowledge from man.
