Come to me!

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

The invitation issued here is captured by three words: "Come To Me." I am amazed at the several invitations throughout the bible. And this invitation is for the weary and burdened, hmmmm who does that apply to…. Everybody!

Then after inviting, God gives a promise; I will give you rest. Will is a very powerful word, it is not might, or should it is a definite promise.

The next sentence doesn’t promise it right away, but stresses you must learn first, then goes on to say that God is humble and gentle. I think of this sometimes when I pray and God puts me at ease as if He says, don’t you worry about a thing, I’ve got this.

The last part reassures us about taking up the yoke and telling us that the yoke is easy and burden light. The awesome part about this is being a Christian which is not a religion of works but belief, true belief. If you believe that Jesus is the savior, and that he died for our sins, and that we all are sinners and fall short of the glory then we are saved. That’s it. The Holy Spirit will take care of the rest and fill that God shaped hole in your heart that you have been missing.

So my prayer is:

Lord thank you so much for the invitation and for the peace of mind that everything we worry about we can give to you. Thank you for your yoke being easy and let me learn to follow you according to your plan. Help me spread your word to those who might not know you so that they can take the leap of faith and follow you and find peace and rest in You. In Jesus name, Amen.
