What is your Character?

The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the Day of Judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” - Matthew 12:35-37

There are several traits that drive me crazy in people. Those traits include arrogant, rudeness, domineering, dishonest, temperamental, conceited, unreliable, condescending, pessimism, mean, uncaring and lazy. Now understand that I have been in a mood that I have displayed some of these traits but for the most part I think I am a very caring person. I saw the other day a bumper sticker that said, “Mean people suck” and I would have to agree mean people are awful. I see them as being all about themselves and not wanting to do anything unless it’s benefits them.

Everybody knows someone who fits into one of these molds, and it isn’t a temporary thing, or a trait that just came about by a situation. This is a trait that is ingrained within their soul and they are (at least for me) difficult to deal with.

This bible verse tells me that good people bring for good and evil people bring evil out of others.

Two thoughts come to mind with this.
1. I can hear my father’s words when he said, “you hang out with bad people you’re going to get into trouble.”
2. I learned early in leadership that you set the mood so if you are in a leadership position (like a parent) they are going to watch you in what you do and they will emulate what you do, good or bad. I cannot tell my child not to steal and then in the next breath say, “Honey I brought home from work a ream of paper for our printer.” The people below you will know the truth about your character.

My prayer today is

Lord, thank you for giving me Your Word to read and constantly showing me the truths within those pages. I pray that you let me focus on what you reveal, and help me be the person who brings good treasure toward others. In Jesus name, Amen.
