I learned early in my career in the navy
that there was no job more important than the other. Someone asked me what I did
on the ship and I replied that I navigate the ship. Their eyes widened and said,
“Wow, what an important job.” To which I responded, “There is no job on-board
that is more important than the other. We need cooks so we can eat, we need pay
clerks so our families back home will get paid and we need missile techs so
that we can hit our targets. Everybody has a job, and every job is needed. From
the guy who cleans the bathroom, to the person who commands the ship, it all
needs to get done. In fact the guy who cleans the bathroom will not only
improve moral because the bathroom isn’t disgusting after 50 men use it, but
also keep us healthy so we can all complete the mission”
The bible mentions this very thing in 1Corinthians 12: 12-31. Saying that we all belong to the body and all the body
parts are important and all of us have our own gifts to contribute to the
cause, and (this is important) NONE OF THE JOBS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY
OTHER. Just trust in God that he has placed you in a situation where you can do
the most impact.
Now this verse also mentions that
whatever situation the Lord has assigned to you, you must do as a believer.
This is not the time to complain that you didn’t want to be a certain place, or
didn’t want a certain job. Do the work with a joyful heart and show God’s
light.
Lord, I pray that my heart does not
complain to the situation you put me in. I pray that Lord wherever you send me,
that I go with a joyful heart. I pray that whatever you have me do that I do
not complain and show Your light in my works. Please let me listen intently to
Your word so that I can understand where you want me to go and what you want me
to do. In Jesus name, Amen.
